JACKSON, Miss| Daphane White notched a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds to help the Jackson State defeat Mississippi Valley State 85-63 at home Saturday.

In addition to White’s impressive outing, the Tigers were led by Ti’lan Boler, who had 14 points, six rebounds and three steals, and by Angel Jackson, who added eight points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

Led by White’s seven offensive rebounds, Jackson State crashed the offensive glass, pulling down 29 boards that resulted in 36 second chance points.

JSU’s defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday’s game, forcing 16 Mississippi Valley State turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 22 points on the other end of the floor. Boler’s three steals led the way individually for the Tigers.

How It Happened

• Jackson State (12-8, 9-1 SWAC) went on a 6-0 run with 3:03 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Angel Jackson, to take a 15-9 lead after playing to a 9-9 tie early in the game.
• The Tigers then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 17-11 advantage.
• Jackson State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 17 points close to the basket.
• JSU kept its first quarter lead intact before going on an 8-0 run starting at the 9:45 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Daphane White, to increase its lead to 25-11.
• The Tigers proceeded to tack on six points to that lead and enjoyed a 39-19 advantage heading into halftime.
• Jackson State was strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 22 points.
• Following the half, Jackson State continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 45-23 before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from White, to expand its lead further to 51-23 with 5:47 to go in the third.
• Before the third period was over, the Tigers added four points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 68-36 edge.
• Jackson State took advantage of six Mississippi Valley State turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of takeaways.
• The Tigers then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. 
• Jackson State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 17 points in the paint.

• Jackson State shot 39.3 percent (33-for-84) from the field and 63.2 percent (12-for-19) from the free throw line.
• Daphane White notched an impressive double-double for the Tigers with 26 points and 11 rebounds.
• JSU held the Devilettes to only 37.5 percent shooting from the field.
• The Tigers never trailed after taking a 17-11 first quarter lead.
• Jackson State recorded 18 total assists in the game and had a 57-23 edge on the boards in the win.
• The JSU defense forced 16 turnovers.
